The greatest responsibility I have discovered over the last 4 years (including my pregnancy) is that every choice I make does not just effect me anymore. Every little decision equals something greater. Sure I can stay up late, but I need to get up before the kids etc. Your life revolves around those children. My greatest responsibility is being there, & being the person they come to for advice years down the road. So, you have to think 10-20 years in advance when you do actions now. It is a complicated thought process this being a parent. But, the responsibility doesn't feel hard to me just natural.
My greatest reward comes when I see my 3 year old help pick up something soomeone drops at the supermarket and hands it back to them. Or when my 2 year old claps and sings along to a song we have been working on. Or says a word that has been repeated oh so many times. These lessons you give your children... when you see them come to fruition that is the greatest reward, seeing them become great human beings.

As a father of a 8month old son and a husband of a stay at home mom. I would have to say the greatest reponsibility is to provide income for the family.
The greatest reward would to have to be spending time with my son. Just the looking at him and knowing that he is "OUR" son! When I walk in the door from work and he smiles and giggles at the sight of me. It is very rewarding.

Candy,
I think the greatest responsibility of being a parent is guiding, nurturing, and disciplining a baby into a well-adjusted, happy adult who loves life. Candy, I think that is also the greatest reward as well!!! Wow! The same answer for both questions!
The answer is, of course, the simplest part of the question! The process is the hard part. Hard, but rewarding in many many ways.

I thing the greatest responsibility is teaching compassion, good decision making and teaching them to be a leader, not a follower. A good leader. The greatest reward... hearing my 5 year old son say to me "Your the best Mommy ever!"

The parenting role is the single greatest responsibility. The parental role is multifaceted and no more portion is more important than the other.
The love and affection in return is the reward. Just seeing your child make the right decision on their own lets you know you did your job and having them tell you they love you lets you know you did your job well................

Protecting them, even when it seems things are falling apart, would be the greatest responsibilty. My greatest reward has always been when my pre-teen tells me he loves me, before I even say it to him!
