He won't starve himself. you just have to be more stubborn the the dog is.
Give him access to dog food at all times until he starts to eat it. Which he WILL. Keep the cat food out of his reach. Your husband is right, cat food is designed for cats, not dogs.

Your husband is right. Cat food contains alot more fat than dog foods do. It's not good for dogs to ingest alot of fatty substances, so put the cat food out of the dogs reach. The best thing to do is explore different foods with your dog, don't let it eat cat food.

It is not OK to feed a dog cat food. I have to put my cats food up on a bookshelf so the dogs can't get to it. Your dog can get bladder stones from it. Just keep the cat food out of reach and don't feed him anything until her eats his own food. You might try using some of the Iams gravy to get him to eat it. Don't change your dogs food all the time either. Let them eat one brand. They won't be so finicky.

Your husband is right. Go to a vet talk to the vet about it. Maybe he can suggest something otherwise seperate the two in different rooms and when your cat is done eating let them out if your dog hasn't eaten well he wont eat until hes ready to eat his own food. i know its bad but keep the dog food down and hwen he does get hungry he will eat it.

Put the cat food somewhere he can't get to it and feed him a good, high quality dog food. I feed the following food. Check out the link listed below and you will see why. The dogs love it.

Try the sample packs to start. If he eats that, then order it for him. Mine love it and eat all they are given at mealtime.
Good luck.

Its not good for him. Cat food contains large amounts of taurine which is bad for dogs in large amounts. It doesn't contain the proper fat, protein... that dogs need to fuction properly. Try giving him canned dog food for awhile then start adding in small amounts of dry dog food until you have increased it to straight dry. If he picks out the dry pieces at first, let it sit so some of the liquid is absorbed and it softens up.

No it is too rich for dogs. Buy a high quality food that does not have fillers. Some good brands are: Wellness, Canidae, Solid Gold and Innova.
