I would say by society's standards. Real men stick around to raise the children they created. Real men don't abuse their wives, drugs or alcohol. Real mean take a job to feed their families. Real men .. I could go on and on.

It's a very subjective thing. I think women say that sometimes when men won't take their s***; it's a means of shaming them into submission by making them feel less manly. That really is an unfortunate way to use the phrase to manipulate people. Other times, I get the impression that women think REAL men don't have any inconvenient emotional needs. That isn't a valid use of the phrase, of course. And of course, there's the use that implies "tough" in some physical sense. The physical sense is the only valid way to use the phrase, I think; and even that use can be irritating sometimes. Have a nice day!

I think a real man stands by you no matter what.
If he gets you pregnant he stays
if you have a bad hair day
if your not in the mood
if your having a bad week or even month
he stands by you through all things and helps you as much as he can
But in order for this to work you have to be willing to do the same for them

I finally met one this year, so I now know. A Real man:
Has integrity. You can believe anything he says or does without question.
Looks out for and helps women, children, animals, the sick, the elderly, etc.. because he feels that it is his duty to do so.
Takes care of himself physically and emotionally so as to be strong and healthy for his family and friends.
Treats others with respect and dignity whether he agrees with them or not.
Believes the best about others and tried to help them reach their potential.
Takes on jobs and duties that others do not want because he can get the job done.
He takes pride in his ability to get things accomplished.
He has no fear of hard work or sacrifice and does not whine about it.
Loves and cares for his wife and family and would do anything for them.
Plans for the future and you can have no doubt that he will meet his goals.
He does not abuse his body with alcohol, cigarettes or drugs so that he can operate fully and participate in life.
Believes in God and country.

A real man is honest, has integrity, has honor, keeps his word, and puts family in front of his own needs. A real man takes his responsibilities very seriously and treats everyone with respect. You can count on him to be there when you need him.

MY HUSBAND!!!! I consider a "real man" to be someone who doesn't shy away from his responsibilities. someone who is honest with you and you can tell them anything openly. my husband is my best friend. he has 3 other children and pays his support without getting mad about it. he has also taken on my 3 children and now we have my 2yr old niece and he claims them all. he's honest with me and i can tell him anything and everything. i've seen him show his true emotions and he's not ashamed to cry, or be sad, or angry or happy. he blows me kisses over the phone and does all the mushy things like that even in front of his co workers. most men would be too embarrassed to do anything like that. I consider him to be a real man.

Real is a fashionable/generic term for I don't know what I want and are too proud to admit it.
I am a carbon-based life form known by my scientific name, Human-Being. Is that real enough?
I get tired of hearing that term applied to everything too. "I keep it real."
Try keeping it fake for once maybe it will work better. People kill me with that.
