The two most romantic restaurants in New York are:
The River Cafe - on the Brooklyn side of the East River - every seat in the restaurant has a spectacular view of Manhattan. The food is great!

OR
One if by Land - the restaurant is in an old carriage house in Greenwich Village:

Check the menus and the views of the restaurants; you can't go wrong with either of these choices. Have a fantastic evening!

I felt the most romantic at this little place called King's Carriage House on the Upper East Side. It was just really private feeling, and the food and service were wonderful. Other very popular restaurants like L'Impero, Gramercy Tavern, and Gotham Bar and Grill, which all have fabulous food and nice settings, but I felt the tables were too close together and didn't give me the sense of privacy that I like for a romantic dinner. I just remembered another one that is gorgeous...:L'Absinthe. Beautiful French restaurant. Hope you have a nice time with your gf.

Depends on what type of cuisine you prefer, but here are my pics...)French is my favorite cuisine.)
La Grenouille
Jean Georges
Bouley
These are very romantic! If you prefer Italian,
Babbo
Greek...
Thalassa
You can find all of these menus on www.menupages.com
Have a great time, and post back with your decision!!
Also, please DON'T go to Tavern on the Green. Unless you are a tourist from another counrty, the place sucks. Food is mediocre at best and you will pay only for the location. It is such a Tourist Trap!!

I'd also have to go with either Tavern on the Green (nothing like it when there's snow outside) or Rainbow room. Also, can't remember the name but the restaurant that overlooks the Ice Skating rink at Rockefeller Center is great.

The rainbow room. There used to be one on top of the twin towers that was a rotating floor restaurant. You'd sit at your table and you can look outside everywhere 1000's of feet high and the floor was moving and rotating so you can look everywhere outside.

i think of it could be very romantic in case you delivered your female chum/boyfriend to your place, made them an somewhat fancy dinner, and beautify the room. So, basically spend $one hundred fifty-2 hundred on it! sturdy success!
