These are actually completely different issues, which do not contradict each other.

HDTV is a method of sending high-definition signal to your TV. Some TV's can show you this high-definition signal, and some can't.

Plasma is a method of making TV screens...This is as opposed to LCD or the old-fashioned tube process.

Most plasma TV's are also HD TV's, simply due to the nature of these both being the high-end technology.

You can also get an LCD HDTV...these are often less expensive than plasma HDTV's, but you should be cautious, as the side views on an LCD TV can be hard to see.

HDTV is way better. You have to be very careful with a plasma. They do not last as long as HDTV and are very temperature sensitive. If they get to hot, they ruin. You cannot out them in a home near a fireplace. If the room gets to cold, the plasma will also ruin. By next year a new t.v. will be out that has a laser picture. These are supposed to be awesome and will be half the price of plasma.

Plasma displays are digital and have higher resolutions than CRTs. When shopping for plasma TVs, it's important to note that not all plasma displays can produce the full resolution of HDTV. Some Plasma TVs are considered EDTVs (enhanced-definition TVs), with a resolution of 852x480. On the higher end ($10,000 to $20,000), there are full-blown high-definition plasma TVs capable of a dazzling 1365x768 resolution.

LCDs are larger versions of your laptop computer screen. Just like plasma TVs, LCDs require an external tuner to receive input. LCDs win for slim, coming in at almost an inch thinner than plasma, but are limited to about 40 inches in screen size.

HDTV refers to the resolution of the televison. A HDTV can be either plasma or LCD flat panels for example.

I would recommend a LCD HDTV.
