If ONLY the internet is slow, then a faster connection (like ethernet) will make t hings better. If EVERYTHING is slow, then McAfee is using more memory than before. You can increase the size of your page file:

Start/Control Panel / System / Advanced (tab) / Performance (button) / Advanced (tab) / Virtual Memory (button)

Make the minimum and maximum number 3x the amount of RAM
(You'll have to restart)

If that doesn't help, then you're looking at adding RAM (not hard, just more inconvenience...)

You formatted the hard drive and installed Windows XP, right? Then you installed and ran McAfee, right? How much memory does the computer have, and did you check that before you loaded XP and then McAfee? McAfee is a big space and memory hog, and my experience with them is that I got rid of them as soon as I could. To run big programs, you need a lot of memory. 512Mb is the least I would have to run XP and much of anything else.

Check the computer memory by clicking on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and System Information. When this loads, scroll down until you see Available Total Memory and Available Physical Memory. This will tell you both total RAM in the computer and how much is left to operate the computer. then get rid of McAfee.

Make sure your computer is clean. You have already scanned for viruses so check for adaware and such.....

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php

Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048

Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.

Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/

Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free!

Do a disk cleanup and disk defrag. Both can be found by following the path below...

Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup

Follow the same path and then do a disk defrag.

Dear,
Install Nod32 antivirus, it consumes less memory. also urgrade it by latest virus definitions via internet and then do a complete scan of computer. If it runs slowly then too., increase its RAM size.
