Surely depends on where in Turkey you are visiting. Generally, December is a cold month, colder in the East and inner parts of Turkey, and warmer on the southern and western coast. Istanbul's weather is similar to NY's, not only in terms of averages, precipitation, etc but also the possibility of sudden temperature changes from one day to the next. I suggest you check www.weather.com for historical data for different towns in Turkey.

Well, it depends on which part of Turkey you will be. I live in the south and we have lovely warm weather in winters. It gets very cold for a short time sometimes but it usually happens in late December and January. North and east parts of Turkey get lots of snow and cold. Generally, the weather is not very cold in Turkey these days. But who knows how long it will be like this.

It is foggy and chilly nowadays in Istanbul. According to weather forecast it will get colder in mid. January.
If you are coming to Istanbul, I would recommend you to have a winter jacket. Because even now it is getting cooler early morning and in the evenings.
