I've known Turks and they seem pretty cool. Laid-back, well-educated people. Sure they've got their quirks but they seem far from racist. What's the deal with the Kurds?

The Kurds want to make a country known as Kurdistan. It would run through the territory of Turkey, Iraq and Iran. The Kurds in Tukey have been bombing the Turks and the Turks have responded by puting soldiers in Kurdish controlled cities.

The Kurds want their own nation and have been fighting for it for years. The problem is it would involve large parts of Turkey, Iran and Iraq. They all have large Kurdish minorities. None want to lose the land. It is odd because the Kurds are basically the most honorable group in the Muslim world. The great Muslim hero Saladin who fought Richard the Lionhearted in the third crusade and earlier recaptured Jerusalem was a Kurd.

Because they rhyme with turds!
On a serious note i think its because they have no state although they do have a nation (they have culture, identity etc)- which makes them an easy target. The middle east also feels threatened by their huge population and demands for land of their own. Turkey as a country also committs massive human rights violations- although im sure most of the ordinary turks are ok.

Not really an answer to the question, but the first person to order the use of poison gas against the Kurds was Winston Churchill!
