I have to have a compassionate reassignment back to the States because Tricare has denied my baby (I'm still pregnant) care on the German economy and none is available in a military hospital over here. (Germany). My packet is already way up the chain, but I am wondering if my husband (we are MACP) will be sent with me. The reason for the reassignment deals with our baby, for one, he will be in the hospital for several weeks after he is born, and we are MACP for two. He's putting in his own request, but I'm wondering what the likelihood is of it getting approved?

BTW, we are Army, and we are not in the same unit, so my pac would have no idea whether or not his reassignment will be approved. I'm asking here in case someone has been in this position before.

I am not sure why care on the economy was denied either, but the situation is very serious. My baby has Gastroschisis; his intestines are on the outside of his body and will need to be replaced after he is born. He will be in the NICU for several weeks to make sure he can eat. And yes, some babies do die from this.

your husband should be able to go with you. they need to find a slot for both you and him at whatever station you are going too. i would fight this tooth and nail. that's the whole point of the couples program. its no good if he's not there, who are you supposed to depend on? you need to get your commander or csm to walk it through for you. i had to have my commander help us with our reenlistment. i came down on orders for germany and my husband didn't. someone with some rank can speed things up a bit if the chain of command isn't helping.

i also wonder why you can't have your baby at a german hospital. i had 2 on the economy and they were excellent doctors and midwives. i also had a problem pregnancy. i had a better experience than my 3rd birth at the military hospital in wuerzberg.

Chances are not likely. He will probably be placed on the "Hardship Tour list" and instead of spending 3 years there he should only spen 1 to 1 1/2 years there.... You can go to your S1 and they can give you more details. If that is the case then get your Unit's Chaplin involved, he might be able to help your husband get a compassionate reassignment along with you..

Can't speak for any other branch of the service, but in the Air Force your chances of getting a CONUS assignment together would be darned close to 100% -- Air Force commanders and first sergeants work those issues HARD. As for the Army, well, if they handle your situation the way they handled my sister-in-law and her family when she had to return from Germany to the U.S. for her sister's funeral, all I can say is "Don't hold your breath."

A little more info. Most services will not immediately reassign, but when they do your duty stations will (should) be within 50 miles of each other.

Military couples generaly mirror each others assingments. It depends on need of his MOS both at the Gaining base and the Losing base, and your need for him there. You should be asking your PAC not here.

honestly, it will greatly depend on the illness of your child..how serious it is and whether or not his chances of recovery are slim or not. If it is something that just needs extra care taken for a while and he is in no danger of dying, probably not.

It depends on the need of his MOS at your new duty station.

Army?
