Manufacturing technique and purification of vaccines has rendered those in use today virtually devoid of side effects other than the possibility of a sore arm. Your sore arm sounds to be more painful than expected so it may have been due to the needle (rather than the vaccine per se) if it injured a nerve. You should notify the physician's office immediately and we are required to report all reactions that occur in the 30 days following vaccine administration of any kind in accordance with the Vaccine Injury Act of 1985. Although the vast majority of reactions will be determined not to have been due to the vaccine only by reporting all reactions will we be able to identify 'rare' and uncommon reactions. Again please call your physician immediately but while you are waiting for a return telephone call take acetaminophen (Tylenol) 1000 mg and ibuprofen (Advil and Motrin) 600 mg. Good luck.
