As a Christian I always enjoy getting questions and correspondence from others about my faith, (and as a result am currently studying up on a particular religion that I find interesting and disturbing for a number of reasons) to be better informed.
I've had quite mixed experiences with the emailing; some positive, some negative, but I still like to put myself "out" there if anyone decides they are interested.

I've found the same thing to be true, Endora.
I know that many times, I myself abbreviate my responses in the interest of time. I also suspect that if I wrote truly involved answers that people would simply scroll past them!
I say enough on Y!A to get the attention of anyone who might actually be interested in my opinion, and if they want to know more, they can (and do) contact me privately.
Many of the correspondence I've had through email with Christians (and others) has been very rewarding.

I have and I've actually been impressed with the in-depth answers. One of the women here actually helped me to see something from a Christian perspective. She was very helpful. I have a little more respect for the Christian point of view now, because I totally understand where they're coming from. I totally agree that the quick answer format does not do them justice.

I do. I correspond with people of all faiths and some who have none at all. In general you are correct in that they are usually far more intelligent than this forum allows to be properly displayed.I have also had some people email me who were absolute morons..to the point of looking worse than they appeared here.

Same here for two weeks, have tried asking Yahoo, but they won't answer except to direct you to the forum but of coarse that's just full of other people asking the same question and getting no answer, if you go to your profile page and click on 'more from your contacts' you can read and answer their questions but I think that's running behind as well. You'd think that as this is an 'answers' site, they would at least have the manners to inform us of whats causing these problems and update us on progress in fixing them! :)

So glad to hear the respect you have been getting/receiving. I have often thought about opening my e-mail but if it's anything like this site, I'm not into the hate mail and bashing. Peace :-)

As a Catholic, I love speaking to those of other faiths over email. I can ask them questions and not worry about offending anyone else or someone misinterpreting what I say.

I've had mixed results with that.
Occasionally, I will get into a decent dialog with a christian about my atheism.
Most of the time, however, it's usually a name calling email or the usual "you're going to hell" kind of email...

It is set up in a competitive format, so people do rush.
