Your dad is not far off at all. When I was recruiting I actually directed my marketing towards the Hispanic Market. Hispanics are generally hard working, loyal, the majority come from backgrounds to where as they would not have much of a chance for college, therefore they take advantage of EVERYTHING the Army has to offer, in turn making them outstanding leaders! People don't want to admit alot of things when it comes to RACE, but the fact is the maority of the leadership in todays Military come from backgrounds other than caucasion. ie, Latino and Black. Once again the reason is majority of whites use the Army for short periods for college money, training ext, to whereas latinos and blacks generally see the opportunnity to make the Military their career and climb the Chain of Command.

All I can say is, as a former recruiter and an Infantry soldier, I have found Hispanics in general, and Peurto Ricans in particular to be fiercely loyal and patriotic, and strong fighters. Perhaps due to hardships in becoming citizens (of course I am not speaking of PR's) they are more willing to fight for something that the rest of us take for granted.

I am trying to avoid the racist card here. Here we go, the military enlistment is predominately made up of lower middle class citizens. Hispanics (or as pointed out Latinos) are probably statistically likely to sign up as compared to wealthier groups like white families who tend to have more resources to send their kids to college.

Because they are poorer and are more subject to unemployement. It is thus easier to recrut them ...

Always poor people go to war ... rich ones stay behind to command and watch.
