The fact that you're looking for a book based on the life of Ali, an answer that goes in depth about the man seems "overkill". Bottom Line, Ali is one of the top 3 Heavyweight Champions in Boxing in history (regarded by many as "The Best" or as he would say "The Greatest").
His charismatic personality brought more fans to boxing than probably any other fighter before or since. Most famous of his fights inside the ring would most likely be his three epic battles with Former Heavyweight Champion "Smokin" Joe Frazier, (The Thrilla in Manilla gets my vote as best of the 3).
Right now on eBay.com there are several of his biographies being sold. One is currently going for a mere .99 cents (a bargain to say the least). I posted the web page to take you to the list where those books are to make it easier for you. Good Luck and hope it's a great read, hopefully "The Greatest". (web page below)

Ali, Muhammad
ADVERTISEMENT
(mhăm´d älē´) , 1942—, American boxer, b. Louisville, Ky. Born Cassius Marcellus Clay, he was a 1960 Olympic gold medalist. Shortly after upsetting Sonny Liston in 1964 to become world heavyweight champion, he formalized his association with the Nation of Islam (see Black Muslims) and adopted the Muslim name Muhammad Ali.
Ali's flamboyant boxing style and outspoken stances on social issues made him a controversial figure during the turbulent 1960s and early 1970s. After beating Liston, he defended his title nine times, brashly proclaiming himself the "greatest of all time." In 1967 he refused induction into the armed services and became a symbol of resistance to the Vietnam War. The boxing establishment stripped Ali of his title and prevented him from fighting until the U.S. Supreme Court in 1971 upheld his draft appeal on religious grounds. Before retiring in 1981 Ali compiled a 56—5 record and became the only man to ever win the heavyweight crown three times. His fights with Joe Frazier and George Foreman were among boxing's biggest events.
In retirement, Ali has remained one of the most recognized of all world figures. The 1984 revelation that he suffered from Parkinson's disease renewed debate over the negative effects of boxing. His appearance at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, to light the Olympic flame, moved an international audience.

The whole Arab nation had reached to a situation of extreme restlessness, where any one is almost have fed up from the superficiality of customs and beliefs being practised in the society, So every one was reached close to a turning point, like a stone at the peak of a mountain, needs just a little push to move fast. There were so many people who had knowledge of previous Books of Allah swt. they were sure that the true and the last Prophet of Allah swt. is about to come. When they listen of Muhammad pbuh, they tallied the signs and become Muslims. Some people had already migrated from Yamen and Persia as they know the last Prophet of Allah swt. is about to come in Hijaz region. Sayyidina Bilal Habashi r.a.a. was a slave of Abu-Sufiyan. When people around Abu-Sufiyan were laughing on Muhammad pbuh while discussing about him, that Muhammad pbuh says that slaves are also humans, others were laughing on this sentence as it was a joke for them but Sayyidina Bilal got the meaning and recited Shahada at the same time and become a Muslim.

Mohammed Ali or Cassius Clay was born in Louisville, Kentucky. When Cassius was twelve years old, his bicycle was stolen and he went to the local police station to complain. The local policeman Joe Martin was the boxing coach for the area. He suggested that Cassius learn boxing to ensure that people do not take advantage of him again.
He went on to win the gold medal in the Rome Olympics in 1960 as a light heavyweight boxer
The year he turned professional Clay showed the world a glimpse of what was to come when he had a six round victory over Tunney Hunsaker in his first professional fight. After a series of victories it was time to step up to the plate. It was time to fight the most famous fighter of the era – Sonny Liston. All the money, most of it mob owned was on Sonny, considered to be a fighter who seriously maimed most of his opponents. There was little interest in the match because everyone thought that Liston would give the young upstart the beating of his lifetime. By the seventh round it was all over, Cassius Clay had beaten Sonny Liston.
was around this time that Cassius Clay had become increasingly disillusioned in a white dominated racist society. He was increasingly enamored with Islam. He converted into a Muslim and changed his name to Mohammed Ali. His style of boxing was something that was very novel. Mohammed Ali’s hands would always be at his sides, not covering his face
Mohammed Ali’s style was described as "Dance like a butterfly and sting like a bee." Another big difference between Ali and conventional boxers was that most of his punches were aimed at the head and not at the body.
One of the instances that is undisputed proof that Mohammed Ali was greatly concerned by racism occurred, when a white man was refuse entry into a black church. Mohammed Ali threw his 1960 Olympic gold medal in to the Ohio River
He refused to take part in the war in Vietnam saying that "No Vietnamese ever called me a ******." His license to box was revoked and he was sentenced to five years in prison. The sentence was overturned after three years. Mohammed Ali had lost three of his prime boxing years
When Mohammed Ali returned to the ring he had a lot to prove to the world. The champion was George Foreman, an undefeated, heavy punching American. The Ali-Foreman fight was to be held in Zaire and was dubbed as "The Rumble in the Jungle." The fight was a technical masterpiece with Ali trying to get away from the powerful Foreman for six rounds. The trick used by Mohammed Ali was called rope-a-dope. Ali played the role of prey to perfection. He became predator only in the eighth round when he knocked out Foreman.
In 1975, Mohammed Ali was part of another epic battle. This time the opponent was Joe Frazier. The fight was dubbed "The Thrilla in Manila." This was a fight to the finish. Frazier was one of the most technically accomplished fighters of his era. Mohammed Ali won by TKO in the fourteenth round.
In 1979, Mohammed Ali retired from professional boxing. But the lure of the ring would not go away. He returned to fight against a shoot match against a Japanese wrestler called Antonio Inoki. In another match which many people regard as a mistake, Ali fought against his former sparring partner Larry Holmes. Ali had grown old and fat, he did not stand a chance against the much younger Holmes. A medical check up after the fight revealed that Mohammed Ali had a hole in his brain’s membrane and his speech was slurred.
In 1984, Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He was in his early forties. In 1999, his daughter became a boxer. Laila Ali went on to become one of the best woman boxers of all time. She went on to defeat Joe Frazier’s daughter.
I think with this you can imagine more or less who is , was and will be the most greatest boxer of all time¡¡¡¡
GOOD LUCK¡¡¡
