I had the same problem with my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. My problem was the tie rods, once ones lose it losens the others, and when you hit bumps and whatnot it squeeks. So definitely have your mechanic check the tie rods that would be my best guess with my personal experience.

Take your Dakota on your broker and have them run the Vin #. I even have heard of a remember on the Dakota 4by4's yet i'm unsure even though if it remains in influence. greater and decrease ball joints are crap and that they are conscious of it, basically dont choose do something approximately it. I actually have a 2000 Dakota SLT and each and every time i subsidized up and became the wheel left or precise i might get a "popping "sound and the squeal noise drove me insane. I replace them my self with the Moog style and that i'm here to tell you its the diffrence between night and day. those are bolt in's not vast rivets or perhaps though they (keep away from) use, and that they have grease fittings!!. there's a small volume of prepp artwork, especially drilling out the old ones then heavily redrilling them to extra healthful the Moogs. while you at the instant are not comfortable doing it your self then attempt some shops, i desire the Napa shops, they're few and plenty between yet worth it.

It could also be bad shocks. Check out the outside cylinder of your shocks and if they look greasy or extra grimey chances are they are bad.
