caffeine isn't good for dogs, that is why they say don't give the chocolate. even though some dogs have no problems with it

I guess most will tell you it is because of the caffeine, but our Maltese absolutely adored coffee and used to sit and watch you drinking a mug - and reminding you to leave her a bit on the bottom (she only ever had the dregs - maybe a half inch deep at most in the bottom of the mug).
Anyway, she lived till she was 15 and a half which is a good age, though she eventually had to be put to sleep due to a heart condition. I did wonder if coffee played any part, but think it was more likely to be old age.

PS (The coffee didn't do great things for her breath!)

I don't believe it is recommended for dogs.

However, I have a 9 year old Husky mix that LOVES coffee and I do not deny her this indulgence on occassion. I make sure it is decaf and that I have not added anything to it (sugar or sweet n' low).

My vet is aware that my dog likes coffee and he has said that it is not a recommended item, but that if she has shown a tolerance for it he sees no reason i cant let her have it once in a while.

Sometimes I'll dip my finger in my coffee to give my dogs a taste though, they love it and they are okay.
