allow a realistic 15-16 hours. I personally have driven this route at least 40 times beginning in 1972 .I grew up in NYC and lived in Chicago for 8 years and made this trip 3-5 times a year
Mapquest is great for actual distance but their travel times are unrealistic to the point of being irresponsible.
A realistic average over the road speed east of the Mississippi is 50 mph west of the river you can add 5- 8 mph onto that number.
Check the weather before you go and carry snow chains.

I did it a lot since my family lived in Chicago and I went to school in NYC..........you can do it in about 12-14 hours including food and gas breaks. But, I liked to leave Chicago in the afternoon, spend the night somewhere and then get to NYC by the next afternoon.
You take Rt. 90 to cleveland and then Rt. 80 which becomes the GW Bridge.

We did it in about 11 hours. Some friends of mine drove there for a long weekend after 9/11 to help out.
