Basic Dog Treats
Mix together
3 1/2 cup unbleached flour,
2 cup whole wheat flour,
1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup skim milk powder
1 tablespoon (or 1 package) dry yeast
3 1/2 cups lukewarm chicken or meat broth

Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm chicken or meat broth. The richer this broth is, the better your dog will like the biscuits. Let yeast broth mixture set 10 min. Then stir in flour mixture. Roll resulting dough out 1/4" thick. Cut dog biscuit shapes from dough. Brush biscuits with egg wash. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 300* for 45 min. Then turn off oven and leave in overnight to finish hardening. Makes 60 medium-sized biscuits.

Here's a very simple one that my dog loves.

Prep Time: 5 min
Cook Time: 20 min
Temperature: 375 F

Ingredients:
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup skim milk

Cooking Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk.
Add wet mixture to dry, and mix well. Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to 1/4-inch thick and cut out shapes. Place on a greased baking sheet and bake 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool on a rack then store in an airtight container. Makes 30 large bones.

This is from the Three Dog Bakery and has been featured on the Food Network and Animal Planet. My dog loves them, and it's fun to use cookie cutters to cut the treats into all sorts of shapes.

different dogs have different diets so I'd make sure of what i am feeding them is OK or fit for their diet. i put my lemon beagle on a diet since my fiance's parents kept her for a while and fed her table food. she was like 36 pounds and her ideal weight is suppose to be about 20-25 pounds. so we got upset and took her back, put her on a strict diet. we chop up baby carrots (not regular carrots) and she loves them. she'd rather have carrots than any of her other food!
