Most often this is a benign condition known as subconjunctival hemorrhage. Subconjunctival means below the clear covering over the white part of the eye. Hemorrhage sounds bad but all it means is that blood is present and it is not meant to imply bleeding. Although decades ago it was presumed that this condition (which is quite similar to a bruise) was the result of trauma medical study has not been able to document this. Most ocular (eye) trauma does not lead to subconjunctival hemorrhage and in most cases of subconjunctival hemorrhage there has been no trauma. One researcher tried so hard to link trauma and subconjunctival hemorrhage that they suggested that rubbing the eyes in childhood might lead to a spontaneous case of subconjunctival hemorrhage in an adult. As we all rub our eyes and we do not all get subconjunctival hemorrhage this is silly. This is also not related to blood pressure. Initially the blood appears red because the covering over it is clear while a bruise begins a darker color because our skin is not clear. It is not possible for the blood to cross from over the white portion of the eye to over the colored portion or pupil so if you have visible blood under the cornea (the center of the eye over the colored portion and the pupil) you should see a physician. The blood breaks down over a period of 10 to 14 days displaying a rainbow of colors. There is no permanent harm of any kind and the blood will never affect vision and again if the latter occurs you need to see a physician. I hope that this has been helpful and as always i wish you the very best of luck and health. jer

If you have eye floaters, spots or flashes don't ignore them. A good site that I recommend is: http://eyefloaters.toptips.org
In most cases eye floater are not dangerous. they often occur as a result of age-related changes that occur in the vitreous humor (the jelly-like substance in the eye). This substance is 98% water and 2% protein, the latter being normally dissolved in the water. However, this protein can get damaged or it can aggregate together, causing floaters to appear. What you see is actually the shadow of these particles. In addition, sometimes the vitreous humor detaches itself from the posterior part of the eye, and this has an effect of altering the shape and consistency of the vitreous humor; again, this causes eye floaters. In both these cases, eye floaters are not dangerous and indeed most health professionals will recommend that you simply ignore them, unless they suddenly get worse. With time, the brain can adapt to them, and you will start noticing them less.
However, there are some cases where eye floaters are actually a symptom of a much more serious medical condition. For example, eye floaters may develop when there is a retinal tear, and this will require urgent medical treatment. Similarly, eye floaters may be blood cells in the vitreous humor, which may result from a burst blood vessel. Indications that your eye floaters may be caused by a serious problem can be if you see random flashes of light, if your field of vision is narrowing, or if you see a shower of eye floaters. However, only a doctor can correctly diagnose the cause of eye floaters, and that’s why it is extremely important to seek medical advice.

It sounds like just a burst vessel in the eye which we all can get from time to time, which can make the eye look as if it has a bleed that looks like a little irregular shaped spot. However, with all young children and babies, its best to get it checked out with your local doctor. Good luck, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.
