yes, a lot of webcams (due to the cheaper lenses used in them) don't pick up light very well. Unfortunately, the only thing you can really do is introduce more light with a lamp or something.

It's compounded by the fact that if it's darker, the picture and motion become blurrier too.

try to take the pictures in the day light - if they are dark there also - that means something terribly wrong with ur camera but if it is happening only in night time or evening time when the natural light is not enough -
i would suggest to have additonal ligting or use the extra flash light which can fit in ur cam corder on the top and give enough light.
