Let me explain. I've noticed that Females love compliments, but here's where it gets tricky, they don't believe them. Take a couple, the male will tell the female that she looks beautiful, she will melt because of the compliment but then tell the male, you're just saying that. Either that or tell him, you're just trying to make me feel better. It is a weir occurance, but it is much too common.

It's all a part of the dating game we all play. When men tell women things like "you look beautiful" they most likely mean it, the motive behind giving that compliment may be questionable but they are most likely sincere...why put effort into a compliment like that if you don't mean it right? Women generally at least thank the man for the compliment (unless they are extremely shy or conceded) and respond with a modest reply because they are simply trying to fish for more compliments! This game seems silly at times but it's our culture, besides, it can be fun when the right people are playing!

I think it is just part of the game. Women are conditioned that if we accept too many compliments then we are vain, so we make excuses to turn the compliments aside.
Also, men will compliment women if they want something so it sometimes makes you wary when they compliment you.

guys lie to get what they want - we all know that - but a simple compliment should not be considered a lie - she's saying that to seem modest...she knows she looks good...all guys are not creeps, and say it because thats how they feel, some women dont know the difference

Because the females are being modest, that is why they are saying those things.
As for lying to females, its because sometimes they can't handle the truth, so you have to tell them what they want to hear.

Thats just a normal responce. My boyfriend tells me all the time how beautiful I am and I always tell him he needs glasses

us ladys like to hear it.. who wouldnt.., but also know that we have low self esteem about our looks so thats why we say that.
