I'm certainly no expert and there are many breeds I have never heard of. GitEmGang keeps ranting about how there are no English Bulldogs and there are no teacup anything. Many many others state that certain breeds and colors are recognized by AKC or whomever the God of the dog world is. Now someone is asking about a "miniature" English Bulldog?
I'm not mocking anyone or their beloved pets...but is it getting a little out of hand?
I have mutts, plain and simple. Yes, one is Black Lab/Pointer, but she is not a "Pointing Lab" she was free and came from an accidental litter from some moron who didn't spay/neuter. My other mutt is Jack Russell/Beagle (we think), but he's not a "Jack-a-Bee". He was dumped in a shelter because of his temperament as a puppy and I adopted him. I paid $175, but that money went on to help the next dog, so I was glad to pay it.
Just wondering what all the stink is about and whos' coming up with these "breeds"...

Wow, Monstblitz...why don't you tell it like it is. I know some people are nasty, I know to weed through the negativity.
And some of us losers get on YA to help make it through a long day at work! :)

There are ****NOT***** any "new breeds"!!!!
Just more fing CROOKS,peddling more CRAP to the increasing population of " FAD FOLLOWING FOOLS",who can't find their own BUTTHOLES w/a MIRROR,a MAP & BOTH HANDS!
If ANY of em would just use all *3* brain-cells,they'd "GET" that ADVERTISING EQUALS LIES!!!
But they won't...they can't.... & they WILL cling to their B-S "granny-tales" about MUTT/MONGRELS because, god forbid, that would mean they might be WRONG about OTHER CRAP they "believe".

Most of the dog breeds are still the same, though there are rare breeds out there, sometimes just unrecognized by the powers that be. Some breeds are dissappearing as new ones are formed. Many of the crossbreeds, like a snoodle, are just new catch words for accidents or for mixing of breeds to get something that might catch on and create a market. Some support groups now, like a cross between a great dane and a labrador, to get more size and strength, yet keeping the trainablitiy. no telling what problems may be found in the future. Still breeds like the chinnok or the Hawaiian POI dog, which is extinct now, are going or have gone. thats a great shame.
It seems like as long as there are dog lovers, there will be new and better catch words and phrases to catch the imagination of the dog world.
However there are organizations like the AKC to keep thoes types in hand.

Sadly if there are people to pay for it, someone will breed it. Against my advice, my best friend took out a loan from a pet store (I know it starts off bad, doesn't it...) to buy a Min Pin - Pug mix for $1600. As I said, if someone will buy it, someone will breed it. I on the other hand have never paid more than $150 (Humane Society adult dog adoption fee) for any of my pets. I currently have a papered show quality Boxer, my family has had Cocker Spaniels and Malamutes (both of which our vet assumed we got from a breeder since they were such good examples of the breed). It's hard to sell people on mutts from the pound though, especially in a society that thinks if you've got money you have to spend it to prove to everyone that you've got it. It's hard to beat saying that you spent oodles of cash on this dog that weighs barely 5 lbs and will only continue to cost money.
I must say though, working for a vet I see alot of random mixed breeds that people paid big bucks for, and the poodle mixes are often a saving grace for allergy sufferers. I personally would rather have the standard Poodle they started with, but they do serve a purpose somewhere :)

lol. I guess. I adopted my chihuahua/whatever mix from a shelter and when he lets his ears stand up straight he looks like a long haired chihuahua. but when he lets them down he looks like a miniature sheep dog. I told my husband that if people are going to go around with their labradoodles then we should say we have a miniature sheep dog and people will probably believe it.
oh, I will add. People need to stop breeding dogs. I mean there already isn't enough homes for the dogs in shelters why do people want to add to the "unneeded" population. It's sad. People need to think about these animals as actual lives and not just $$$$$$$.

I agree but I've always wondered what makes them worth more money than a mutt? Just because they know what breed the parents were? I have adopted all 3 of my dogs and was also glad to pay the fee! Great question!

Yeah, my dog is not a malasky or a huskamute, she to is a mutt. i just call her a snow dog to most people it helps them understand that i know they don't care what kind she really is. I mean if i told them she was a pure blood 7th generation Samoyed most people wouldn't know the difference anyhow. So instead of making up names people should just back off, and as for breeding new types of dogs, that just horrible and gross, I do not think we need a new Chihuahua Sheppard or something stupid like that.
Soon enough the world will be allowed to play with genetics, and we will start having dog and cats being genetically made, because it might be cute! yeah for the evolution of man!

Celebrities are the ones who starting have small dogs and making it chic. Now everyone is cross breeding to make the dog the perfect dog...doesn't shed...can fit in your purse...etc. If you ask me, when you mix breeds of dogs together they are considered mutts, aren't they?
I agree, its just a big money making scheme. I used to pay about $5 on a farm to get my dogs that where make up of two breeds or more.

The only reason some of these losers get up every morning is to go on Yahoo answers and scream about how some type of dog "is not a breed" or there's "no such thing as a". Just ignore them. If you sipher through their crap, you'll find the answers you need.

Yea, it's amazing what people'll label dogs. The shelter I used to volunteer for, had two "Miniature Chow Chows". How someone managed to breed for that appearance, I have no clue. Looked exactly like a Chow, but was no taller than your knee, and maybe weighed 30lbs?
