I am really seeking advise from anyone who's had their tonsils out as an adult. My Doctor and so far, everyone warns that it is much worse on adults than it is on children.
How bad is it really?? Any advise on aftercare would be great. I've heard people say over and over that it's going to be really REALLY bad, and i've got children to take care of.

Iam 41 and I have a really high pain tolerance level...this I know, but I got from EVERYONE, especially my ENT that it was going to be extremely rough, the "worst pain in my life" kind of rough. I started to doubt if I would even be able to function after the surgery

Well, I am on my second day post op and I am still waiting for the "worst pain in my life"...I have had a little discomfort, that is it. I also had a septoplasty and turbinoplasty done and that bothers me more than the tonsillectomy because I have a stint and clumpy clots that I can feel in there, more gross than painful.

To give you an idea of how I feel...Well, I feel like I have a cracker in my throat that is just stuck there...it isn't painful but it is a little bit irritating because it is in there and I know I can't clear my throat to get it out. If you are squeamish in the least, then don't look at your throat afterwards because it is UGLY...I think it looks like a roasted marshmellow, you know, like when you are roasting a marshmellow and it catches on fire so you blow out the fire and are left with a singed black/grey looking crust on the white marshmellow? Well that is how my throat LOOKS.

They give you drugs, I was given percocet. I take them every 4 hours and I am just as happy as a bug in a rug. I think that if you allow yourself to go with the discomfort, you will think it is painful. My advice is to just take your drugs and get well. BTW, the percocet makes me sleepy but it doesn't make me feel drugged. I think I could have taken care of children within a few hours of the operation but I don't think they recommend that you do that. You will want to sleep for a while after wards so get someone to help you with the kids at least for the first 24 hours.

I think whilst you're 60 you are going to feel again how younger you have been at 30. I feel 30 is a top notch age. You have your schooling, a role and cash, possibly a loved ones, and are younger adequate to revel in it. I simply became 30 a at the same time in the past and every person threw me a occasion. But at 31, nobody spotted. I felt type of lonely. Turning 31 used to be worse than turning 30.

When I had mine out, it really sucked. As long as you eat soft foods and have some pain killers you should be alright though. I don't know how well you will be able to take care of your children though. If you are on painkillers, you are going to be extremely tired. Try to have someone else around to take care of the children and to help you. The first couple days after my surgery, all I did was sleep.

Good luck, I hope everything goes well.
