...and how much is a 'failure to yield' citation from the state of Michigan?

My guess is you are the one who failed to yield? Contact the local courts and ask how much the fine is. You also need to call your insurance company and report the accident. And go ahead and expect a rate hike if you are in fact the at-fault party. Especially if you have less than 3 years driving experience.

Now would be a good time to get a part-time job...or 2...or 3...

You failed to yield? Well I'm sure you know you're at fault. Not sure what the citation cost is. Call the court and they'll tell you.
