My mother used to be an Art major in college and wants to get back into painting. I want to buy her some of the things she needs for Christmas. What are some basic supplies that painters need? Any reccomendation on brands would be great too!

Unless you know exactly what kind of supplies (brands, brush types, sizes, strength of canvases or paper, etc) she wants, i think it would be best to get her a gift card. as a painter myself, it really sucks when someone gets you paints and brushes and canvases and they arent the kind you use or they are kind of crappy b.c although the put thought into it, theyre things you dont really want to use, or if you still want to get her stuff...if youre not sure, you could always ask her what she used to use that way you can get exactly what she would want. good luck!

None of my relatives or friends bother to buy me art supplies anymore since I've asked them to stop! Painters, especially trained ones, are particular about the art supplies we use. A gift card is what I would want.

Painters are funny about their supplies so I would get a gift card from Hobby Lobby.

Don't buy her supplies.... as a painter myself they best thing you can do is purchase a gift card to a store and let her choose her own. If you must buy supplies...canvases are your best bet. Let her choose her own paints and brushes.
