I have noticed during my short lived life that females are very fierce when it comes to other females. Even good friends have this animosaty between each other, and it usually shows when the males are around. Is it a natural instinct for them to put such a high guard and hostile aura when other females are around her and her male counterpart, or is it a social behavior learned?

you have to understand most women are always worried about they're appearence, and the way people look at them. most females get not so much jealous, but worried that they might not look as good as another women that walks in the room.

Well, no it is not by nature. its just that a woman is constantly on her guard when it comes to a man she likes and she will do almost anything, if not everything, to get him to notice. This is learned, we have seen other people act like this as kids so as we females get older we act in the same manner.
