Cankers are caused by a lot of different things: Stress, hormone levels, lack of nutrients in your diet, biting your cheek by mistake.

If you keep getting them, you might need to go see a doctor and get checked out. They're a pretty good indication that something is awry in your body.

These are caused by a virus, herpes simplex 1. No, this is not the same thing as herpes simplex 2 that attacks the genitals. The vast majority of people in the world have herpes simplex 1 (well over 95%). However, some of us are more prone to outbreaks than others.

There are several factors that can cause one to be prone to outbreaks. Among them are genetics, stress, and allergies.

If you are allergic to bananas or latex your outbreaks could be exacerbated by your toothpaste. Yep, that's right, your toothpaste. One of the ingredients in most toothpastes used in the US are in the same allergy family as latex and bananas.

There is an Indian brand of toothpaste called "Neem" that does not contain this ingredient. It also contains an extract from a plant called "neem" that is a natural defense against such outbreaks. If you have a local Indian market in your location ask if they carry it.

They sound like canchre sores. Do you ever place foreign objects in your mouth? Pens and pen caps are usually the main offender. So try not to put anything like that in your mouth. Don't chew on pens or anything. Swishing salt water in your mouth helps.

Possible STD infection as well as possible vitamin and nutrient deficiencies. Go to your family physician and get checked out, he'll probably want to run a blood test to see if it's just deficiencies or infection.
