My husband smokes Marlboro Red in the soft pack. The ads and the catalog they used to have are just extras. He started smoking pretty young and he likes the taste of these. He doesn't remember why he started using Marlboro, but he thinks it's because he bummed one from an uncle and just stuck with it.

I've been smoking 1/2 a pack a day of Marlboro Reds for the past 2 years. Although all the ads for the Marlboro Man are long gone these days, I would have to say the manly images of roustic cowboys who live on their own terms appealed to me. However, I think the argument that tobacco ads trick kids into smoking is retarded. You make a choice to start smoking and if you become addicted it's your fault. Besides, it isn't that hard to quit cold turkey, so stop bitching. Nicotine replacement products are a scam. I mostly smoke for the flavor and the way it helps you to stay level-headed.

I messing around with cigarettes in third or fourth grade, and was a pretty regular smoker by around the eighth grade. I think I started smoking to seem cool, and maybe to fit in with the crowd i was running with, which was middle-class suburbanites. Partially it was probably due to some of the older members of our group smoking coupled with that urge to prove you're a grown up. Neither of my parents smoked. I don't think that print ads played any part in the decision to start smoking if you even want to call it a decision, since at such a young age you really don't know what you're getting yourself into and you think you're invincable or that you can smoke and won't get addicted. That's part of the problem, the addiction sneaks up on you and you tell yourself you want a cigarette but in truth you Need a cigarette. If any type of ads influenced me to any real degree it was movies; all the coolest characters smoked. They also present smoking as a way to deal with stress in adult situations, and as I said adolecents are eager to be seen as grown up. The one thing that the ads do accomplish is getting that new smoker's business. I'll bet that 75% of new smokers under 17 either do or would smoke marlboro or camel if they had the option. Being under age you have to take what you can get either from parents or friends or random people outside the gas station. I remember when I was new to it all, Camel and Marlboro were the only brand names I even knew, but on top of that, as cigarettes go marlboro and camel make good ones, yes there can be big differences b/t brands. Its all a stupid, stupid mistake.

I sometimes smoke Marlboro Menthol Lights. It has nothing to do with the ads, as I could not tell you anything about any of them. I don't recall ever seeing a Marlboro ad. I don't have a tv and they don't advertise in the magazines I read. I just like the flavor of those cigarettes. Usually I roll my own or bum them from somebody else though.

I have smoked Marlboro menthol lights for years and honestly the ads have never even bothered me. I cant recall any recent ones I have seen but I do remember them from the past. The ones I remember didnt affect me obviously I still smoke them, I like this type of cigarette because its has the best flavor I have tried a few others and this one tops them.

I smoke Marlboro Reds and the ads really had nothing to do with it. i tried different kinds and Marlboro Red seemed to fit me the best. I like it's flavor and the chemicals don't give me a head ache unlike other cigs.

When I smoked I smoked Marlboro - mostly because of growing up where they sponsored everything - it's almost like giving back (hah!). I quit over 19 years ago but my DH still smokes them - it's more a flavor thing than advertising. They are rich and smooth very seductive and not easy to quit.
