How would that make you feel?

The feeling doesn't just apply to women, it would make me feel as if this person thinks I owe them something other than my love. It is kind of belittling, don't you think?

i would say thank you, especially if it's true.
i know it may have been said and u feel badly but go uses ppl to help each other and if god used him to bring u up in this world simply say thank you.
if he continues to reproach or say it in a derogatary way then say thank you AND move on.
when i met my fiance he was selling nuts, and plastic bags, etc as a van sales man. i applied for a job for him with a company he didn't even know existed and now his salary is higher than mine and he is presently in the states on a training seminar that the company has paid for!!! and he only started wit hthem in feb 2006.
sometimes i laugh and say 'if we ever split at least i know i took u somewhere' and it is not meant in a bad way. he never ceases to thank me occasionally.
we love each other and anything we do for each other is obviously to make that person better off.

oh hell no. id be very mad and hurt. id have to tell him off 4 sure. if this man loves u like he should he wouldn't even think to voice a statement like that. that's just mean as hell to try and make someone feel bad that way.

I would tell him to get his head out his A@# and step off his high horse. with men sometime, when they do something nice, it has to affect his ego. and i find that comical. thats how i would feel, like this man is a real joke

i think i would be hurt.. and would be like well i never asked you too.. and if you want me to pay you back for whatever it is ... then fine.. if it will make you feel better. and start nickle and diming him untill he got off my back..
my ex did that to me! tried to make me feel guilty about his buying a mustang to impress me
