And I know that you believe it. But belief in something does not make it the truth. I know you think it was written or inspired by god, but thats NOT the truth. It was written by man who was inspired by his own spiritual belief, and thats ok. Can you not atleast admit that just because YOU belive it, does NOT nessessarily make it the truth. Saying your God is the only true god, will only lead to more bloodshed. No one wants that.

Dear Taoist-

You are correct belief in something does not make it truth.

I am curious as to how you were misinformed about how the bible was written. Scripture says that the Word of God is God Breathed (inspired by God).

Have you had an opportunity to study the bible?

Did you know that the bible prophecy that has been fulfilled to this point has been 100% accurate?

Did you know that Jesus was prophesied about in the Old Testament over 300 times?

You cannot prove that the bible is not true.

It is with the utmost sincerity that I say that I hope that you see the truth and that the truth will set you free.

While I'm not saying that you are wrong, can't you at least admit that you might be wrong? Can't you at least admit that just because you believe (that the Bible was written by man, not God), that it might not be? What I am trying to (obliquely) get across is that you are also expressing a belief, not a "truth."

But I agree with your sentiment, that religious convictions should NEVER lead to war or other bloodshed. I don't really mind someone who says "believe what I say, or God/karma/the universe will do X to you." I do (as I think you are trying to express) have a problem with someone who says "believe what I say, or I will kill/hurt/maim you." Religious, political, and social philosophers of all types shouldn't turn their love of their own beliefs into violence towards others.

No, belief in something doesn't make it truth, so in that you are right. Truth is absolute and is true whether you believe it or not. The bible isn't true because I or anyone else believe it to be anymore than it is false because you believe it to be based on false logic that has no proof. (i.e. written by men based on their own spiritual belief) Answer me this, if the bible was written over a course of 1500 years by over 40 different authors, in roughly three different languages (Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic), then how can a book that tells one complete story from cover to cover be written by men based on their own spiritual beliefs? With that many people witting the bible based on their own spiritual beliefs, wouldn't it be more prudent and logical to think that none of the books of the bible would have any correlation to the other? People can't agree on the definition of the simplest words, yet you think that the authors of the bible can agree up writing the bible over those span of years with such fluidity. If you don't think I am write then post the question on here: Are you a Good person? Why? and you will see that most people will answer yes, but their definition of what is good will vary, yet these "authors" are in the same time period. Being a Christian I will even pick on my own religion. Look at the questions and answers on here, especially the ones asked specifically to Christians...you can't get more than a couple to agree on what certain passages mean in the bible and even the ones that do agree have slight variations in their explanations. Man was no more responsible for writing the bible than your keyboard was in typing this question.

To anyone who thinks they understand the bible no matter what your belief is I would seriously think twice about that before posting it on here as fact and this goes for atheists as much as it does for Christians. There are a lot of "arrogant" people on here on both sides of the spectrum who do nothing more than make themselves look like fools when they try to make the "ahhaaaa post" that is supposed to put a lid on the other side. The fact is that the bible is both complex and simple. Its simple in that anyone can get the basic message of it. We are all sinners who have broken the law and deserve punishment, for those who accept the the gift of salvation from God that pays the fines for your sins you will be washed clean and allowed to be in the presence of God, for those who refuse you will have to accept the punishment you are given for breaking the law. And yet the bible is so complex it would take more than a life time with knowledge in multiple academic disciplines (i.e. language, math, science, archeology, etc.) to fully understand all the truths that it contains. This is a pretty tall order for the average Y&A to come on here and think they are an expert.

Just my $.02.

Excellent, well said, on behaf of your belief. If you are really serious in your querry about belief and the truth...let me ask you a question. Your sign or picture here is a character in Japanese which means "DO"...way or path. What way or path do you tread, TAOIST?
If so are YOU sure of your BELIEF...is it the truth?
Mr. Morihei Ueshiba serched for almost all his life for the path or "DO" in his defensive and offensive art and finally he found the path for it and called his art AIKIDO.
He taught that Aikido was a funtion of Kami Ka (fire) Mi (water) also read Himitsu, "holding the key to all secrets." fire and water heaven and earth, sun and the moon, yang and yin, logos and eros, positive and negative.
Furthermore, he explained in the Kabbalah the integration of fire (symbol of a triangle) and water (an inverted triangle), when putting them together, displays the seal of Solomon. In Christianity, he said, humankind is said to be spiritually reborn out of water and fire: and he quoted Luke 3:16.
Further more he explained, that each human being is a child of god. Like the Taoists and Shintoists, he said the human soul (tama) has two parts, The kon element is the "higher soul". the heavenly spirit that endures for eternity; the haku element is the "lower soul", the earthly spirit that passes away with the body.
All this is what isin harmony with Christian beliefs...we all belong to the universe, we all breathe it...we are children of god.
May you contiune your path or "DO" as your picture indicates.
Peace......

Can you at least learn to phrase your question with a little more of the tolerance you wish me to give you? Certainly truth is not proven by simple writing. If it were then I could write a book about how wonderful I am and how I never sin and am always perfect and pious. Since none of you know me, how could you doubt it's veracity? However, faith is called faith because one intuits intelligence in the writing and the message given is one that touches the heart and transcends human nature. And of course, simply because I believe it does not make it the only text or message that has ever been written and followed.

Your acceptance of mystery is a legitimate arguement. Those who pose to do bloodshed in the name of God, simply do not understand the message, taken as a whole, that is represented by anything that is holy. So, I disagree that when one says, "this is truth" that they are necessarily wrong in doing so, yet I concede that when one disrespects anothers beliefs especially when done strongly, the indignance of it can lead to predjudice, bloodshed, and enmity.

I am Christian and know that Christianity claims to know the way to the true God. I also know that the Almighty, Supreme being, is not limited by the descriptions of the Bible, the Tura or the Koran! Every intelligent person knows that a god is whatever a person worships - another person, money, etc.

First off, I believe you are correct. There is no truth without the open mind that will allow us to accept that others might not share our belief and that doesn't mean they will be damned for eternity.

However, as for the bloodshed part, I suspect the group on here are not the fanatics that would perform any violence. Those ones are all hiding in mountains and armed to the teeth awaiting their Lord's return...assuming they don't shoot him for trespassing first, I'm sure all will be right if and when he arrives.

I do believe that the Gospels do tell the true story of Jesus Christ. It's my right to say that my God is the one true God. I don't believe in any other gods. That's just like you saying that believing that there are multiple gods is your right.

Seems like you're the one with the hang up. I don't care if you decide not to follow Jesus. That's your decision. Just know that I believe He died to save your soul. Whether or not you follow him is up to you.
