I think it has to do with optimism -- the 'rose colored glasses' just refuse to be set aside. Our pollyanna tendences permit us to see good -- even in places where mostly bad resides in our efforts to attain the 'eternal spring' of Camus

Believe the term I would use is that people have sub-consciences that cause us all to live life in little vicious circles of activity and thought.
