as a dog trainer and owner, i've found that "potty pads" are a horrible way to train and should be used as a last result if you're nowhere near the outdoors or if you travel a lot with your dog.

the best way is to crate train. buy a crate that is just large enough for your puppy to lay down in. the best would be one that has partitions you can remove as she grows. give her some bedding that she won't kill herself on by eating, and no food or water in there. it's like a big enclosed bed. do NOT force her in, coax her by tossing treats and praising her. she already has a den instinct that makes the crate appealing to her. let her sleep there a few times with the door open, so she knows it's her very own safe place. now close the door for increasing increments of time, like 5 minutes one day, 10 minutes the next. each time you let her out of the crate take her directly to the place you want her to potty at, like the backyard. you MUST wait until she pees or poos. if she's younger than 6 months, she probably won't be able to hold it for more than an hour or so. you'll be able to figure out her "schedule" eventually though. but in the meantime, the typical puppy potty routine is ever hour, plus right when she wakes up and right before she goes to sleep at night, and 20 minutes after she eats.

the reason why this method works the best is because it relies upon a dog's natural instinct to not potty where they sleep. it teaches them how to "hold it" for as long as they can, but don't make the puppy suffer, obviously. also, because the crate is their special place, it's a safe place to put them when you have to leave the house so they won't get into potentially dangerous trouble. and trust me, they ALWAYS find trouble.

so good luck with your puppy! boxers are GREAT dogs, i've never met one i didn't like. also, as a larger breed, you shouldn't have too much trouble housebreaking her.

Crate training works best for most dogs. Paper training or puppy pad training sometimes is confusing, dogs think they can go inside and outside. Taking her to the same spot in the yard and telling her "potty" when she is doing her business will connect the word with the act. Doing it enough, she will catch on that she shoud go "potty" when you tell her to. Boxers can get excited and distracted, so potty time and play time should be kept separate.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL24s

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

The breed makes no difference--you need to be there for her near 24-7 its not fair to leave a pup in the house alone and expect her to get the hang --pups are just like kids they sleep play and eat and when the urge hits them they will go look for a spot--keep a close eye on her and when she has that look take her out right away--or after she has been asleep for a while and she wakes up tell her its time to go potty and take her out tell her GO peep and when she does? Tell her what a good girl she is --but when you take her out repeat Go Peep --follow her around so you can see that she has actually gone so you can praise her I don't so much believe that a person rubbing their nose in a wet spot really does anything but confuse them--however when she is in the middle of messing in the house say loudly NO and take her out and tell her to go out here

What worked for me was to take my dog outside frequently. When you catch her "going" praise her and always use the same word. For instance, when I was training my chihuahua and she "went" I would say, "Good girl go potty". Sounds lame, but she loved the tone of my voice as she was being praised, it's only a few words so hopefully she remembered them, and now when I say "potty potty?" she goes for the door to be let out. It worked for her and for the Rottweiler I had before. Take her out right after she drinks and periodically throughout the day. Good luck to you and your puppy!

Crate training works really well. Keep the pup in the crate for slightly increasing times (up from like 5 minute) with the door closed--make it comfy for her, put a favorite toy in there, etc, and eventually you will find that she goes in there when things are too chaotic for her just to have her own space--kind of like going to your bedroom and shutting the door for a few minutes of P&Q when you need to. Anyway, she won't want to go in there, and the increasing times helps to train her to hold it until the time is appropriate. A little bell a little above her paw level at the door helps too--before you let her out, take her paw and ring it. She will eventually ring the bell when she needs to go out.
