In recipes, you see these words a lot and I was wondering just how much of a difference is there in between these?

Sliced: Think of a slice of bread it is sliced
Diced: Think of cubes - like cubed ham or chicken
Chopped: Think of chopped onions, chopped herbs, etc. chopped is smaller than cubed.
Watch the food channel from time to time. I do but always get so hungry and then I want to eat.

I'm guessing you know the answer to "sliced" - simply cut your object into rings. As for diced and chopped, they are similar except diced is smaller than chopped. Minced is the same thing, except even smaller than diced.

sliced is about 1/4 inch thick. Diced is more than minced but not much, just very small. Chopped is like taking a potato and quartering it or a carrot and cutting about 1 inch thick.

dice
To cut food into tiny (about 1/8- to 1/4-inch) cubes.

chop v. Using quick, heavy blows of a knife or cleaver to cut food into bite-size (or smaller) pieces. A food processor may also be used to "chop" food. Chopped food is more coarsely cut than MINCED food.

Slice: to cut whole food in slices as in a slice of bread or slice of cheese.

well sliced diced and chopped are all different in size but also when using each different one they all cook at different rates... Sliced cooks faster than chopped but diced cooks faster than all of them and chopped is just when you are in a hurry.

You slice something cylindrical like a cucumber or carrot into little disks. You chop something like an onion of parsley into little bits. You dice something that has been been already cut into a big square into many smaller squares.

sliced means your knife cuts thru the item at only one plane, lelaving them in slides (think bologna)

diced is when the knife cuts on 3 planes, to make small cubes of similar size; usually refers to carrots, potatoes, or other "thick" foods

chopped is like diced, but no uniformity to size; usually refers to tomatoes, celery, onions that only need a knife run thru them in 1 or 2 planes to get into small pieces
