An easy way is to go to Start>Run>type msconfig In that go to the startup tab and uncheck the things you don't want. DO NOT uncheck something if you don't know what it is or does. The best way is to go into the programs and tell them not to startup on windows startup. Most programs you can right click on their icon on the task bar and click on preferences or something similar. Search around in the programs a little bit for options or preferences and then look for anything that says start when windows boots and uncheck. TrendMicro is virus software I believe and should be kept on.

Sarah B is correct. It's msconfig

Here's a little more info on how to use it.

Another major cause of a slow PC is programs that are running in the background. Here's another really good Microsoft tool. Go to Start > Run > type in msconfig in the box and click OK.
This will bring up a window with several tabs at the top. Click on the “Startup” tab. It will list the programs that are running on your PC and eating up resources. Look them over carefully and turn off any that don’t absolutely have to be running. Simply click on the “check mark” in the little box beside the program name. Clicking on it will remove the check mark. Once you have edited the Startup list, click on Apply and then on OK. Once you have exited the window, reboot your PC for the settings to take effect.
WARNING: Don’t go into the other tabs and start deleting things. You will probably give yourself major headaches if you do that. Stay focused on the Startup List only.

Hope this helps.

There is a harder way if your feeling frisky. Goto Start > Run > and type in Regedit hit enter. Now get to here HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS > CURRENT VERSION > RUN. From there in the right window you can delete things you don't want to run by selecting it and hitting your delete key. One more thing after you go there stay in regedit and then go to this location also HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS> CURRENT VERSION > RUN. From there do the exact same thing as you did above select in right window stuff you want to get rid of then hit delete key and say yes. Be careful what you delete though cause if you do it this way you can't get it back. MSCONFIG is better if your not a professional like me.

Start
Run
Type "msconfig" (without ")
Startup
Then uncheck the ones you don't want to start up.
