Because to put the clothes in the hamper or the dishes in the sink implies that you intend to take the next step - wash the clothes or rinse off the dishes. It's what lazy people--lazy, young people--lazy TEENAGE people who have a working mother--like to do. Kinda like leaving 2-3 corn flakes in the box so it's technically not empty, so they don't have to throw it away.

If clothes are sweaty or damp, it just might not be a good idea to put them in a hamper until they are dry. However this might best be achieved by draping them over the hamper, not piling them on the floor. Otherwise I see no point to not depositing them in the hamper. Pure laziness I guess.

As for the dishes issue, I think people do whatever they do out of habit. Personally, if the choices are next to a sink or in it, I'd chose next to sink. Reason: this leaves the sink empty and free for other uses until I get around to washing the dishes and eliminates an almost-as-irritating phenomenon of dirty dishes full of water sitting in a sink that you want to use for something else.

I only put my clothes in the hamper if they are too dirty or stinky for me to wear. Like if I played basketball in it or wore it all day. Stuff that touches your body directly (shirts, socks, and underwear) usually go bad their first time out whereas outer stuff (sweaters and pants, etc.) can usually go a few times before washing. I put those things on top of my dresser or in certain areas of my floor to tell me that they are not "newly washed" but still wearable. If I only wore something a couple hours and didn't do anything to it, sometimes I will even put it back in my dresser. But the laundry in my house that you see "laying around" is actually designated in that "in-between" grade, and it is where it is for a reason.

I put dishes next to the sink because my dad makes me lol. If u think about it, u might need to use the sink for something else. And plus its easier to put the dishes in afret u run the water. Its not laziness its just common sense.

Dear Brown Eyes,

It looks like you already have the problem diagnosed. The only alternative I can think of is they are waiting to pretreat the laundry or don't want to stack up dishes in the sink? I know, I doubt that as well.

Now you have to determine your response. Do you wish to continue to be irritated? (We all get to pick our pet peeves; I have a couple of doosies) Do you wish to quell the behavior? Can you identify the offender? (I guess the laundry is easy, right?)

It may be thoughtlessness . . . .laziness . . . . rebellion . . . .a deliberate attempt to drive you nuts. Each may have a different solution. For thoughtlessness, have a family meeting, and post a sign. For laziness, snap a digital photo with time/date, and charge for your service to do their work. For rebellion? I have 4 teens. Sometimes you have to pick your battles.

Maybe laughing is a good solution, seeing it as job security, or offering the "job" to another member of the family, letting them collect charges due? Options are endless. I'm sure you can come up with the one that's right for you and yours!

They want to drive the rest of the household crazy because they are so lazy or thoughtless. Maybe they were never taught the proper way to do things in the first place. Or maybe we are all neat freaks to them.

I agree with you 100%. I get so sick and tired of doing simple things like that for the lazy others in my house.
