Sure its appropriate, I'll tell you what a friend did for me. She got a group of ladies together at my work and coordinated them to make 1 dinner entree or caserole each and then she came to my house each day and delivered them. Maybe you can organize a group like that.

Sure, just call and tell her how much you would love to see the baby. Ask if dinner time is good for her and offer to bring a meal. It would be a great way to get together, and if you make enough food, just leave the leftovers with her so it's one less thing for her to worry about. It may be anice relief from people stopping by for an hour, looking at the baby, then leaving. If you can, aslo offer to help out with other things. Maybe offer to come over for a few hours and watch the baby while she rests or even just takes a shower. She'll appreciate it so much.

JT,
Of course it is! Also helpful are easy to assemble meals, frozen meals, or even coupons, gift cards. Some days several people can drop something by, and it's easy to get too much food one day and none the next week when the baby isn't sleeping as much.

Another hint is to send food in disposable containers so she doesn't have to remember which dish goes to which person.

You are so thoughtful! Way to go JT!

I think most new mothers would appreciate any assistance they can get. Most people who visit bring a gift for the baby, a gift of a prepared meal or assistance with some of the house work for the mother would probably be greatly appreciated. Make a genuine offer of assistance and follow through.

That's a very nice gesture to take food over, and then just ask if she needs any help around the house or anything at all to let you know.

As a mother and a grand-mother, YES, any help would be appreciated. Having a baby in the house is both exciting and tiring. Most times "Mom" doesn't have energy for much else. By all means, help her if you can. I think it's great that you're asking! :-)

I don't see why not. That would be very helpful with a new baby and all. As long as you offer politely of course.

Absolutely.

Sure. They are tired and adjusting to the new baby as well. Anything which will save them time, is better than any material gift.

those are great ideas!!....if you take food, i'd take something that just needs to be popped into the oven (like a casserole, or lasagna)....your friend would love it if you came over and helped out....i'm sure even one meal she didn't have to cook, or one load of laundry she didn't have to do would mean a great deal!!
