I for one would not.

So why would the one who supposedly loved us no matter what, send us to such a place?

Your right Hell doesn´t exist.

The original words Sheol and Hades were incorrectly translated into Hell. The original meaning of sheol is "abode of the dead"; "the common grave of mankind".

And for Hades "abode of the dead"

What I think it all means is if someone is really evil they get destroyed, so thier wicked ways cannot influence the others in a negative way. After the resurrection we will have time to better ourselves

Who gets destroyed is decided by God alone, not by some priest who say thats your child will go to hell if it isn´t christened. (christening is also unbiblical by the way).

All these fear enhancing ideas like hell were brought in to scare people to join the catholic church so they would be under thier control. Look at what the catholics did to the ones who didn´t want to join, also not very christian behaviour.

The God of love would never create a place like hell.

Religion and politics; two things which should not be spoken of in polite company. But, eh, since when were any of us polite?

There are several theories to what Hell actually is, some believing that instead of a place of eternal torture, it is simply complete detachment from God; or, Earth as it is today.

After all, is not everything we work for eventually taken away? Do we not live only to die? Do we not step back as we step forward, destroying to create?

Life is a fiery lake; by bringing children into this world, you have already sentenced them to the aforementioned damnation.

Only my personal view.

I often wonder why a decent human being seems to be more moral than the "god" of traditional theism.

Here's a thought: maybe the traditional notion of God is an anthropomorphism derived from earlier, more barbaric ages of human culture. IOW, this image of the punishing God is just a projection of the despotism prevalent in ancient cultures... and the real "god," whoever or whatever that may be, has nothing in common with these ideas.

Weird, i ask my pushy christian dad this question all the time. I personally don't believe in hell, but your right, why would God condemn us to hell for making a mistake or two? Isn't eternity kind of a long punishment? I mean, even murderers get out of jail eventually. What if the Bible was mis-interpreted (gasp) and hell is actually here on Earth and we're punished for our mistakes while we're still alive?

If I told you don't do that, or I'm going to send you to a lake of fire and you did it anyway...you are going to do it no matter what the consequences. Maybe that's what we need to know. When he shows us our life here on earth, all the things we did, thinking its possible we will go to hell, then we did it because we wanted to. Not because someone made us, but because it was something we wanted to do. Then when you are judged, you will understand why you are at the level you are at. Because of the choices you made here on earth.

In the kitchen of salvation, their are child-proof locks on the cabinets containing poison, Froot Loops, and other harmful items. However, the doors to the cupboards of Cheerios are always unlocked. Praise be the oaty goodness!

I have been asking religious fanatics this very question since I was 16.
My feelings on the matter is that god is not what any of these man made religions portray him/her/it to be. Because if god is as they say, god is a little attention starved child playing with his toys(us).

Try this quote from Homer Simpsons:
Can god nuke a bean burrito so hot that even he couldn't eat it?

Hmmmm. If your grown son, whom you had raised in a respectable and honorable fashion, committed a crime deserving of the death penalty, would you let him get what he had earned?

Assume your son has kidnapped, raped, and murdered 3 children, then left their bodies for animals to feed on. Would you bail him out of jail, or help him escape from Death Row, just because "he is your son"? Or would you be ashamed of his crimes, and accept the pain and agony of watching the reprobate get what he worked so hard to earn? Realize that, no matter HOW GOOD of a parent you were to him, that everybody will look askance at you from now on; it must somehow be YOUR FAULT he got those ideas.

When God deals with reprobates like us, he isn't dealing with 3yr olds with their naughty hands in the cookie jar. Please reconsider your approach. Whatever version of "hell" exists, it isn't something to be compared to an unrighteous beating of a toddler. It is the death penalty, deserved and avoidable, for people who willingly chose to "flip off" God, and go their own way. At every point, He stand near us, trying to pull us away from the pit. It is us that pushes HIM away, and dives in head first, then blames HIM for the flame.

It seems that you are asking about why God allows people to send themselves to Hell.

You might not realize this, but none of God's children will be in Hell.

Only children of the devil (those who have by choice not trusted in Jesus) will be in Hell.

ah, my friend, God does not "send" His children to anyplace but Heaven. If one, like yourself, accepts the salvation God freely offers through the blood of His son, Jesus Christ, then you can join us.
Those who harden their hearts to God, perhaps seeing Him as you do, will be afforded the only other option.
