The letter extended the prescription or statute of limitations for these crimes to ten years. However, when the crime is sexual abuse of a minor, the "prescription begins to run from the day on that which the minor completes the eighteenth year of age."[6] Lawyers acting for two alleged victims of abuse in Texas claim that by sending the letter the cardinal conspired to obstruct justice.[7] The letter did not, in fact, discourage victims from reporting the abuse itself to the police; the secrecy related rather to the internal investigation of the alleged crime, forbidding all parties to divulge what took place during the Church trial

Absolutely. My in-laws are Catholic, and they simply cannot understand why I never converted and why our children are being raised in the Episcopal Church.
However, I believe that if a church knows of a child molester within its ranks, buys off the family and moves that priest to another parish, then it is abetting a monstrous crime. It is no different than driving the getaway vehicle during a bank robbery. Because if you know of a child molester's activities and do not report him to the authorities, then you might as well be holding down his victims for him.
It is a moral outrage.

Yes it is a scandal, a huge one. No church should be behind the protection of ppl committing sin. It can love and forgive but those priests need to removed from the positions they are in, They have dishonored God and their church, and should be handed to the law to be dealt with, just as everyone else is. Tho, there are many catholics that are in agreement with me, and are great ppl, there are still being deceived by a false religion. God tells us there is no other way to Him and Heaven, but thru Jesus. ANy religion that doesnt teach this is false. WEll, Catholics do belive in Jesus, so whats the problem??? Several things, to just name a couple. The priest belives he can offer total forgiveness, absolution, and this is pretending to be GOD. Only God can give absolution. It is He we must go to and ask for forgivness. He never said we needed a middle man to do the job. That is blasphemy and they are deceived. But all have a right to believe as they choose. Even God gives the precious gift of free choice. and all we be judged according to the choices they do make. all of us.
another example, Catholics teach we can pray to saints and even Mary, the mother of Jesus. NO. God tells us the only way to pray to Him, is thru Jesus Christ, His son. ( who is also part of the Godhead.) three in one. all part of the Godhead, acting togher as one. Father God, Jesus the son, God and the Holy Spirit God. I can prove this with the Bible...
and, there are more, I have only named a few. Anyone claiming to have only the power that God has is part of the antichrist. Read scirpture about all of that....
and with or without faith, it is wrong for any organization to be so big and bold and corrupt as to protect ppl that are hurting others, especially innocent children, and just moving them from one parish to another. It tells them it is OK and it is NOT>
But, we must not hate them. WE must love them and pray for them, for they KNOW not what they are doing. dedeived by the devil. What was Jesus cry on the cross?? FATHER FORGIVE THEM, THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO. This is to be OUR cry also, but also bringing them to justice and holding them accountible for the things thyy have done, and not allowing them to continue to hurt more innocent little kids. Bible tells us God is a God of justice too. But, pray for the kids and the priests. We are to pray even for the lost........Only God will judge and condemn we can judge their sin, but only God says who is forgiven and who isnt. not even the preist or the pope can do that. sheer fallicy.
