behind our being involved in the Iraqi conflict? Do you think it is money driven? What do you think is our real reason for being over there?

I believe President Bush had a goal to achieve something in Iraq. What his exacting reasoning was, I do not know. How we got there though was that the people of the U.S. were so blindsided by the 9/11 attacks, that Bush used that as a way to get support for going into Iraq, saying they had WMD's. And here we are.

It is not Oil, Oil was supposed to be the byproduct, it is not Religion while most of us think it might be religion. Bush is after Islam, the system not the religion.
The first target of US were Taliban in Afghanistan, they had no war with US, what they asked US was to provide proofs for Binladin's involvement in 911, and they were ready to bring Binladin for trial in any impartial internationl court.
But the whole world now knows that Bush admin. was so quick to decide that the attack was done by binladin and afghanistan was carpeted with blind bombs, and the result of that carpeting is not that binladen is extinct or al kaeda is wiped out but we apparently dont have any government in any part of world which is totally an islamic government, to enforce islamic laws.
Second target was Iraq, just to show muslims that US is the power in Middle east, and refrain muslims to strive for Islamic Democracy, and to make them follow US manufactured Democracy and Dictator ship, Pakistan is knuckled down, Iran is threatened, Saudis and UAE are already in Pocket, Egypt is already under CIA rule. Congrats on wining the war.

I hate to say it, since it sounds so cynical, but I'd have to say a little bit of money and a lot of revenge. Bush Jr. wanted to redeem his father for "not getting Saddam the first time" and because Saddam threatened his father's life.

I think we were in defense mode after 9/11 and they were just the first who came along after and dared to mess with us. We didn't want to look defenseless so we took the offense and invaded. And since we couldn't catch Bin Laden we used it as a diversion.

Combination of forces.

a) Bad intelligence. Or at least, not-fully-understood or justified intelligence.
b) Oil.
c) Trying to take out Saddam based on old hatreds.
d) Religion.

I think you need all of those factors to finally understand.
