The people that have written in here above me/before me have absolutely no clue what they are talking about.
Furthermore, your friend needs to ask a lawyer. Some criminal defense attorneys will talk to him for free over the phone if he leads them to believe that he has money and is considering hiring them. That being said, you could consider the following:
Otherwise, YES - A misdemeanor of this sort CAN prevent you from getting jobs. The only way to expunge it is either get it dismissed (by hounding a prosecutor and continuously presenting him with new "evidence" that it never occurred, as it is his duty to reverse it if presented with clear and convincing evidence of innocence). Otherwise, talking to the attorney as referenced above, check to see if all appeal proceedures have been exhausted. If they have, he'll have to work hard at whatever job he can get until the period for expungment expires. In Utah, for example, I think it's 5 years from the date of conviction to be eligible to apply for expungment. Depends on the state as well. Some states, such as AZ I think, don't allow expungments.
I hope this helps!

It has nothing to do with an arrest record. It has to do with convictions. Depending on the company---some ask if you have ever been convicted of a crime, some only ask if you have been convicted of a felony. Expunged? Since I'm not really sure what the heck you are talking about......if he really thinks this should be expunged, then he should talk to a lawyer.

Misdemeanors generally don't prevent you from getting a job. You do realize that there are a lot of traffic offenses that are considered misdemeanors also - mostly, they just don't count. Heck, even for the government, you can get hired in with having a misdemeanor on your record. I don't buy it.
And no, he cannot get the domestic off his record. They keep it there because number two is a felony.
Guilty people generally don't get convicted of crimes.

If it's just a misdemeanor, he doesn't even have to list it on the application... the best thing that he could've done was do the classses that they offer and then it wouldn't be on his record period. The only records that can prevent you from getting a job are if they are drug related or theft/fraud related. Maybe there's another reason he can't get hired.

You only have to put FELONY convictions on job apps, so i fail to see how this is keeping him from getting a job. I think he's making excuses for himself.
He can always lie, too.

If he was convicted of domestic violence and has appealed it it won't appear on his criminal history if he wins his appeal. If he has been found guilty and not appealed, or lost his appeal, he'll remain guilty and his criminal history will reflect that he is.
