I lived in Ecuador for 12 years ,in the headwaters of the Amazon. There is no rain forest having any problems there. It was a fight just to keep our roads open. Down there u get 100 in. rain per year and everything grows find except man. Many things will kill u ,including some of the natives.

That link that several of you put up on your answers is exactly what I was talking about when I answered Leo's question...an acre and half per second...what a load of crap!! It just keeps getting worse and worse according to this web site, there is going to be no rain forest in just a few years. Do any of you realize that the forest will grow back? And there has been evidence that part of the forest was burned, guess what, it grew back!! The soil does not automatically become sterile when the trees are cut down...it that were so, there would be no trees that ever grew back anywhere.
