Okay you have almost a 2 carat ring and you want bigger??? Ouch, well I have a 1. 78 and i LOVE IT I would not want to change it for the world. If your financial are there and you can afford to buy a new ring bigger than 1.75, your looking at about 20,000 for a good quality ring. THat is a lot of money, wouldn't you rather put that money for your kids college fund or someting. Maybe you can use that diamond but put it on a different band, something with more diamonds or something. Personally I think your ring is probably beautiful and you should keep it and use the money for something else, like a new car or college for kids. GL

I absolutely happy with the set I have! My husband didn't have much money when he bought it...I think the center stone on my engagement ring is .25 carat and the tiny stones on both rings add up to .75 carats, so I have about 1 carat overall. I don't remember the quality, but I know that the set was on clearance at the jewelry store because the style was discontinued.
I think my rings are pretty, and I'm glad that the stones aren't too big. That just looks gaudy sometimes! My rings are special because of what they symbolize, not because of how much they're worth.
We're in a position where we could upgrade them if I wanted. But I never would!

If it means this much to you just talk to him, be honest with him that you'd like for the two of you to check into upgrading the center stone...maybe make it a birthday or anniversary gift.
I honestly don't see where you shop and the fact that you're a stay at home mom has to do with a wedding ring....I was married for nearly ten, being a stay at home mom for most of that before I ever got a new set, I didn't ask for it it was a gift, and I love my new set, and I loved mt first set--before I lost it when I was pregnant...

It is very difficult to upgrade just the stone in a platinum setting. You may need to get a whole new ring. In which case - heck! - hold out for your 10 year anniversary and ask him for a whole new ring. Then you will have the original for sentimentality and the new one for "bling"
If you want to do it sooner, I agree with BeezKneez - be honest with your husband and talk with him. Include him in this - after all, isn't that part of what being married is about?
Best of luck!

If I ever received an engagement ring, I would never upgrade. He bought you that out of love and you should be happy and keep it the way it is.
You should look at what the ring symbolizes instead of what it is worth. I would be happy with a ring with way less than a carat diamond in it because I know that is all we can afford. I don't want a huge, gaudy diamond that would cause us to be in debt.

I don't think I could ever actually replace the center stone... just add to it. Like I have an oval diamond 1 carat- and I would just love to have two 1/2 carat ovals on the side of it and maybe 1/4 carats next to that. But I could never exchanged me stone.
What do you want?? Your diamond sounds huge!!
Is it a marquee and you want an emerald cut ect??
That would be more understandable since some cuts/styles are getting dated.

You are lucky if you get to upgrade now...1.75 is what most will upgrade to and not upgrade from, as in your case. Just be happy with the ring and worry about paying for other things, instead of a new one.

First, let me apologize on behalf of the rude answer prior to mine. Being a stay at home mother IS a full time job! I congratulate you on being able to handle this household.
As for your question, just be totally honest with your husband. Tell him that you were supposed to upgrade after 5 years, but it slipped your mind. Tell him that you're ready to go in for an upgrade, if he thinks that it would be suitable. Don't forget to include him in this decision making, men like that. That's my advice, just be completely honest with him. Good luck!

Of course I would not want them changed. They were blessed at our wedding ceremony by three priests, and given to me by my husband when he married me. Nothing would make me change them.
If you really want new jewellery, just go and buy yourself a nice dressy ring.
