I have a 13" Zenith television that is about 15 years old. I use it in my kitchen, when I'm cooking, to watch the news.

Lately, the picture has been problematic. There are lines that completely blur the screen.

At first, I thought it was the reception and adjusted the antenna but I noticed that when the lines stop "scratching" the screen, that the reception is perfect. Therefore, the antenna is not the problem.

However, the clear images are very rare. Most of the time, the images are impossible to see on the screen and colors are bleeding into each other. It's hard to describe but I would have to characterize the issue as HORIZONTAL STATIC.

Does anyone know what this is about? Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm not ready to buy a new tv, especially when a perfect screen occurs up from time-to-time.

Thank you.

dont take it anywhere. they will probably just tell you to take it back. my Husband fixes tvs. The parts and labor will cost the same, if not more, than a new one that size.

ok, the tv is 15 yrs old. It's survived well to live this long then. The tube itself may well be on the way out and tv may be about to die.
if the picture is faulty and it's intermittant?
where is the tv located, in relation to things like your microwave oven, normal oven or fridge. TV's don't like magnets or excessive heat and moisture, you may need to move it.
You adjusted the antenna? It's an indoor antenna then? Why not hook it up to an exterior antenna for a stronger signal.
Who says you need a new tv anyway, why not look around for yard sales. People are always selling portable tv's cheaply.

If there's a lot of horizontal lines with picture blur I think something wrong with the board that attach in the back of the tube, one of the component burn. If you never fix a TV I suggest you bring the TV to the nearest service center.
