I need to buy a good wine, and a good champagne... I need to know which are good ones. I want red wine. Preferably merlot, if possible. I'm looking to max out at $50/bottle. Any suggestions?

if you are looking for a good red that's drinkable now show up with an Australian Shiraz or Cabernet Mix like Greg Norman Estates Limestone Coast Shiraz or Cabernet Meritage any good wine store will carry this and will be under $16 plus everyone will love it, there are no good deals in California wine as far as champagne or sparkling wine, get everybody's favorite: Martini & Rossi Asti Spumanti, if thats not snobbish enough then get mumms chardonnay based champagne but you can by to astis for $22 or one mumm for $22, you make the call.

The current issue of "Wine Spectator" includes its annual survey of 'wines of the year' including its evaluation of the 100 best values.

The May, 2006, issue of "Decanter" (a better wine magazine, in my judgement) includes it's tasters' choices of the 50 greatest red wine values in the world.

And the December issue of "Consumer Reports" in North America contains
an article of recommendations for wine gifts.

You will see from each publication that you need not even approach $ 50/bottle (no matter which country's dollar you are referring to).

Personally, I suggest, for a (probable) change of pace that if you are a North American or an Aussie you treat yourself to a good French classified St. Emilion (made with merlot), and if you are a Brit or other European to buy a good New World merlot, or a merlot blend (Australia and Oregon vineyards make some outstanding ones).

As for Champagne, I am in the camp that feels you can never go wrong with Veuve Cliquot.

the terrific wine is selfmade wine, I have been given black berries in an abundance So each summer season I p.c.. a extensive 5 gallon waterjug finished, I then shake them so as that they bust up a yet, upload a yeast packet and Sugar and enable it ferment for countless months, the element is, you ought to use a bag as a substitute of a cap on the water jug, you have availibility of growth, after approximately 2 months, I tension all 5 gallons and get approximately 3 gallons of wine. Its thick and purple and needless to say candy, its tasteful. I call it "interest" bottle it and drink one bottle and save the others for specific circumstances. yet you likely dont care to flow interior the path of the difficulty once you may actual purchase it, yet, theres no longer something like ingesting a wine with somebody which you in my opinion made.

For an affordable, very drinkable wine, I would recommend Cavit pinot noir. It has a very smooth finish without the bitter tannins.
