I believe that it is a must because there is clear proof in the Qur'an and we also have proof from Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him's wives and daughters who are our role models.
In Surah Nur ayah 31 Allah SWT orders us to:
* lower our gaze
* pull our garments "over" our bosoms
* not to display our beauty except to blood relatives ex: father, husband, brother, etc.

Now i would kind like to ask those who say it isn't fardh meaning obligatory or must, to examine that and tell me what part of that isn't talking about niqab?

Jazakumullah!

You will never find a final answer. Traditions are very mixed with religious teaching so that it is very hard to know whether a Niqab is a religious teaching or just a tradition. However, I can tell you there is no verse in the Quran that orders women to wear Niqab.

as salam o alaikum warah matul lahi wabar ka tuh...

dear friends.. there is a condition upon women..

like if she feels.. that if she will show her face.. than someone can attract her.. and can start gazing at her...... in attraction.. or.. you may say...... one no mehram.. can fall in love with her..

then i think she should take niqab..

coz if she is a pure Muslim than she will feel like.. no mehrams' gaze is making her nude...

anyway its just for the protection...

if she is not in a complete pure Muslim.. society than i think she should take niqab..
because if she feels like the men living in the society are purely Muslim.. then she can satisfy herself that no men will look at her.. coz for hijab firstly Man is warned to lower the gaze. .. i've mention some verses for men & women.. hope it will help you all... to realize the answer.. but in my view.. there is not a single society which is filled with complete pure Muslims.. so better for women to cover her face also.. ...

coz. it is mentioned in holy Qur'an...

Hijaab for men

People usually only discuss ‘hijaab’ in the context of women. However, in the Glorious Qur’an, Allah (swt) first mentions ‘hijaab’ for men before ‘hijaab’ for the women. The Qur’an mentions in Surah Noor:

"Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do."
[Al-Qur’an 24:30]

The moment a man looks at a woman and if any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he should lower his gaze.

Hijaab for women.

The next verse of Surah Noor, says:

" And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons..."
[Al-Qur’an 24:31]

I think 'purdah' is not needed now.but its good to wear a cloth on hair.It is helpful. but full cover is some time dangerous also .
Once I heard men wear it &sit with ladies."parda" also makes a problem that avoids lady to keep full active.

Niqab is not necessary. You don't have to cover your face, just everything except your hands, face and feet.
