Most guys feel intimidated when they meet the parents for the first time. Different guys have different reactions, and the most basic and instinctive reaction is the one your boyfriend showed. If you compare it to a wildlife situation, your boyfriend is the new wolf walking into an established territory. A wolf would challenge the dominate males of the territory to establish his place in the pecking order, and this is what your boyfriend is doing, probably unconsciously.
It might be helpful to let your family get to know him away from anyones house, try the mall or a park, and also in smaller groups. Invite your mother or siblings out for an afternoon with you and your boyfriend, and then if they become more comfortable with him, then add your father.
Or just keep in mind that he was probably just really nervous and maybe even scared and the attitude was his defensive device to cover those feelings of insecurity.

Maybe he has grown up learning to act this way.
Maybe that is the true person that he is, and you need to find someone else.
Honestly, a relationship with someone should be a relationship with the family too. Your family is the only group of people that cares about you more than anyone ever has, or can care about you. They wouldn't tell you that he is not worth it if he truly was. They want what is best for you. Maybe you should listen to your family on this one.
Also, a mother's intuition is usually ALWAYS right.
EVERYTIME my mom has said "i really don't like this guy" or "this will happen" it ALWAYS does.

Here's a hint: most guys want to impress the family of a girl they like. The fellow sounds like he's not too bright and obnoxious to boot.
Get a guy your family will like; Life is too short trying to live with an idiot - Been there done that.

He is immature. As a mom, I can tell you, I wouldn't get over that one anytime soon. My daughter is way too important to me. If your boyfriend is that ignorant to act that way, perhaps you should keep shopping.
Ask him if anyone has ever been impressed by him acting that way? Other guys, girls or especially parents.

Put it down to an over inflated ego, lack of self esteem and a desire to impress.
Nerves could play a part but then again so could a lack of personal identity.

I think it has to do with what they believe is supposed to be their role according to society/ their genes. They act all big and tough to try and show that their not a weakling and that they can take care of you and protect you.
