So I'm sitting in class today and I keep hearing these loud clacking noises. I look around and a girl keeps slipping her shoes on and off, sliding them around and knocking them over and stuff, making a lot of noise. I look around and there were like 4 or 5 girls playing with their shoes or has their shoes half off. Why can't you girls keep your shoes on? Who else does this and why?

What? What's your obsession with girls and shoes? All your questions have been about girls and their shoes! You have a shoe fetish going on, or something? Stop being creepy and weird dude.

Dear qpwoei,
What an interesting observation! I hadn't noticed that before but it is indeed true. I suppose it is similar to teenagers playing with their retainers after getting their braces off, or those who fidget with pens (some are amazingly talented!). I supposed you wouldn't have noticed this if it had been a room with carpet?

I doubt, whatever the cause, you can stop anyone from fidgeting, cracking knuckles, or popping gum. I guess my question to you would be, how do you intend to respond? Are you going to develop a pet peeve, ignore it, or file it under "weird female quirks" and move on? I guess you could put a small carpet square under all offender's chairs?!?! Just wondering!

For the most part, it is comfortable to remove your shoes while sitting after standing for a while. Also, if we feel restrained by our shoes, it is common for us to remove them for air and allow our feet to breath. Playing with them and moving them around with our feet is done out of pure boredom. Honestly, we really don't know we do it, sort of a nervous tick.

I sorry to say I do this all the time. In my case, I do it because I'm getting older and my feet hurt, but I think in most casees it's just a habit that we get into when we're bored. And, of course, once it's a habit - you do it without thinking about it. I vote that we all wear tennis shoes all the time - that would solve this prob immediately!!!

i do it all the time at work or when i was in class... get bored of listening to the teacher or just kinda restless... i like to be doing something all the time and to have to sit for 4 hours kills me... so i would just play with my shoes... only with sandals or heels though... I'd rather be barefoot than wear shoes to begin with so maybe that has something to do with it.

they must have sandals on because it takes a lot of energy to take a tennis shoe off with shoe strings

and its a girl thing

it isn't just boredom... sometimes it just has something to do with not liking stuff on your feet.. i hate wearing socks and shoes.. i'd rather go bare foot

sometimes the shoes just hurt our feet... if you had to wear high heels for at least 8 hours every day, i'm sure you'd be playing with your shoes too lol

I have noticed when I do that it's because for many reasons:
* I am boring
* I am thinking in all the things I have to do soon
* I am nervous, stressfull or I have anxiety
* or the principal reason is because I am in front or around from somebody who likes me ;)
or sometimes I do unconscioustly.

My best guess boredoom. But when I messed around with my shoes I did it quietly so I weren't bother anyone.

I do it when I am sitting for a long period of time (more than 20 minutes). I think it is out of boredom and we aren't completely aware that we are doing it.
