If your goning to go with the popular answer, that gets you rateing and money, then no we are loseing, but if you're going off the idea that the people of Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries are backing down and not being more of a threat, which, in my humble option then yes we are winning the war over there, even though we are still loseing lives, its a dangreious play to be and I am sad that I have lost frineds, brothers, other Marines over there, but its now a new country...we are winning by my standerds

I don't know how one could do better than make a wild guess. Part of what is going on is what some military thinkers call "4th generation warfare." Part of what's going on, especially as regards the sectarian violence, is the inevitable wind rushing to fill the power vacuum left by the exit of the Baathist regime. The former theoretically and the latter historically take years and decades to come to a resolution, and I'd hazard that there's really no good benchmark by which to measure. On the other hand, I also suspect there are some budding Smedley Butlers in the USMC (and the Marines are pretty good at recognizing names like Butler, Puller, et.al.) who have a good idea of what to do. We simply need to let them have the time and resources to do it.

Both Tony Blair (British PM) and Robert Gates (soon to be US Defense Secretary) have both publicly announced that the war in Iraq is being lost. These announcements have come in the past few days. If this doesnt convince you the war is being lost, then I have no idea what would

I dont think so.

But then again I am not going to say much because the last time I typed my opinion on the war in Iraq I got in trouble for "hate speech", so you are on your own.

It depends on who you are listening to.

If you listen to the news media - we were losing before the first bullet was fired.

If you listen to people who have actually been there - we are doing much better.

Personally, I feel that the war is being won in Iraq and lost on the homefront.

If you look to the liberally biased news networks (NBC, ABC, MCNBC, CNN, etc) then yes. Then again, for some reason, liberals want the US to lose the war.

But I'd say no, we aren't. We have the leader of the country in custody. We have helped Iraq to hold elections. Honestly, we need to go in harder with more force and defeat the little radical groups that still remain.

But yes, we are winning.

We won the war, in the sense that we achieved our objectives: Toppling Saddam and installing a new regime. It is now an occupation, and we should never be occupiers.

Catch up with the news. Things are going badly in Baghdad. Baker's report recommends to start pulling troops out in the first quarter of 2008. Please stop asking this silly question.
