Getting married doesn't automatically give you citizenship, you still gotta apply and go throught the process, but it makes it easier.

It will, any change in status means you have to start over. It is usually easier to get a green card as a citizen's spouse. Is your current application for a green card based on work? If it is how far are you along with the required proof for that?

I got my green card because I married an American. I had to wait three years for the interview and prove it was a genuine marriage, lots of photographs and bills in joint names. But it was just amatter of waitingand while I was waiting, I had a work visa and a travel permit so I could leave the States without affecting my application.
