We moved from San Diego to Virginia, and she is now an indoor only cat. She eats only dry food, and we have a bowl down all day for our two cats, one is fat and the other too skinny. I dont know how to get her to lose weight...any suggestions?

only feed her once a day and put her on a special diet. think they make dry cat food for that. I personally like my cats fat, but not too fat. and if the other one is too skinny the other one might be eating all the food

How often and how long are you playing with them? Exercise is always a great way to help your cat get back in shape. Play with her with interactive toys where she has to run and be active. One of my kittens likes to play fetch, so that gets her running a lot back and forth.

I would also suggest switching the feeding habits to only twice a day. I have one kitten that looks like she's getting fat but I also have a lean mean fighting machine kitten that runs around so much that he doesn't seem to ever gain any weight. We were free feeding them, but lately we've had to start only feeding twice a day. We have been following the feeding instructions on the food bag so what we do is take what both kittens should be eating for their weight and split it in half. Half a daily feeding in the AM and half in the evening when we get home. So far, it's been working and she hasn't been gaining any more weight. And our other kitten now seems to be eating more (and getting bigger) because there's not as much food just lying around anymore! =P

If all else fails, bring her to the vet to assess the problem. Maybe she needs to go on a diet, but your vet is the best person to determine what kind of diet and what kind of diet food would most benefit her.

Good luck!

Take the food off the floor and feed only two meals a day. Feed the skinny one normal food and the fat one diet low-calories or only canned, as dry has more calories. Also might want to make them play-run around or buy a ceiling cat tree, so they have somewhere to climb onto. Some cheap ones on zooplus.
Is the skinny one VERY skinny? If so it might be hyperthyroid, ask your vet.

Put her on a diet cat food like science diet

don't leave food out all the time just give her little bits at a time.

You said now she is an indoor cat only so im assuming that she used to be an outdoor cat....maybe she got worms?

I would start feeding your cats seperately. Maybe you can put one in the bathroom and feed her and let the other eat in the kitchen. They make great food now for indoor cats. It's formulated to help them keep off weight and recieve all the right nutrients. I feed it to my cat that lives in an apartment and she loves it. I just feed her the recommened amount on the bag daily. Also make sure you play with your cats regularly during the day to help them burn calories. This wont hurt your skinny but add joy to both of their lives.

Are you sure she isn't pregnant? They don't always appear pregnant till a few days before they give birth...Also she may be stressed by the move and is keeping the other cat from eating. Cats do some intersting stuff when stressed
