You don't. Puppies chew, some never stop. What you do is train the pup as to what it can chew. Make sure he has a few safe chews, a treat fillled kong is great. when the pup picks up the right thing, praise him, tell him how great he is. When he chews the wrong thing, tell him no and make him give it up and give him the acceptable chew. When he takes it, praise him.

Well first off all this sounds like a very good pup! Puppies are supposed to chew on things, #1 they are "teething" and that makes them feel better, #2 (if he is biting you) that is how he played with his previous pack (aka the other puppies) #3 they are checking out the new environment just as a human baby would-by putting things in their mouths. When your puppy is chewing things, he see these items as prey. You need to teach him what is acceptable prey and what is not (such as tubing.....wires.....pant legs..hands). When your puppy goes to chew on something he's not supposed to, firmly say "no, leave it" and have a proper toy handy to give so he will spit the other thing out. Do not just leave toys laying around the house. YOur dog needs to know those toys are YOUR toys, not his. It's part of establishing your rank, which is alpha. He only gets toys when he does something for them correctly, such as spit something bad out. He only plays when you say so. He will learn what is a prey item and what is not. If you aren't able to watch him closely, because you must be consistent or you are creating a bigger problem, then in the crate the puppy goes. My yorkie had a problem biting hands and I didn't even need to correct her, I just said NO firmly (but not loudly or excitedly) and then gave her an acceptable toy to play with. She learned in a couple of days. Sometimes, puppies learn the game and will not spit whatever they have out because they believe this to be better than the toy you have. This is when you need to start correcting him, not just diverting the behavior. Say "No, leave it" grab by the scruff and give a shake (this is how the mom corrects her puppies) and he should spit it out. Give the new toy and praise IMMEDIATELY after he spits it out. If he doesn't get it, he needs a harder correction. However, I would not really correct a puppy before 4-5 months......they are still just babies and you wouldn't smack a human babies butt for doing something bad would you? All puppies chew on things......it is completley natural. If your pup is doing this and he's under 5 months old, just divert his attetion, they usually grow out of at 6 months or so. If he doesn't, then he needs corrections to know what is acceptable prey items.

The first step in correcting a chewing problem is to guide your puppy's chewing toward acceptable chew toys.
Choose a variety of good quality, safe products. When your puppy shows you what he likes, buy several more of the same type.
Hollow rubber toys work well since biscuits can be wedged inside for your puppy to pry out. This gives him a job to do and helps keep his focus away from your possessions.
Another way of keeping your puppy focused on putting his mouth on the toys is to teach him to play fetch.
Never take proper chewing for granted. Take an active roll in rewarding desirable chewing with lots of encouragement and praise.
Give your pet plenty of praise every time he chews on his toys. Occasionally give a small reward, such as Puppy Biscuits to strongly reinforce the behavior.

Give him authorized chew toys. Pet stores have a wide assortment of teething toys for pups of all sizes.
Give him the authorized chew toy and make a big deal about the "good toy!" Give it to him and say "good toy".
And put away all shoes and other things you don't want him to chew! And if you catch him with the shoe, take it from him and say "No! Bad toy" and grab an authorized chew toy and as you give it to him say "Good toy".
Puppies are like human toddlers. They need CONSTANT supervision. And when the pup can't be under direct supervision he should be in a secured area of your house. Like a puppy play pen or crate.

All puppies chew. Get him a chew toy.Even an old sock with a knot tied in the middle will do. Put things away that you want to protect from the chewer. He will grow out of this phase!;-)=

Make sure you have plenty of toys laying around for him to chew. Get some bones for his as well. If he is chewing things like shoes and the couch there is this spray you can get. It is call Bitter Apple or something like that. All you do is spray it where he is chewing and he won't chew that anymore.
Oh and make sure you praise him for good behavior like when he is chewing on his toys. Smack his nose when he is chewing something he shouldn't be and don't play with him for a few mins afterward.
